The Georgian chess grandmaster has been banned from the Dubai Open Chess Tournament after officials discovered he was darting to the toilet to consult his smartphone, which was logged onto a chess analysis app, the Dubai Chess and Culture Club said. Nigalidze's opponent, Tigran Petrosian of Armenia, grew suspicious when Nigalidze kept bolting to the restroom.

When Mark Pincus hired a new executive to run Zynga, the online game company he founded, he wrote on Twitter, calling the executive, Don Mattrick, an “Internet treasure.” Now, less than two years later, Zynga’s Internet treasure has left the company, and Mr. Pincus has returned as chief executive. The departure of Mr. Mattrick was not altogether surprising to many in the industry, since a long-running turnaround plan that he set in motion at Zynga had yet to take flight.

Valve Software co-founder Gabe Newell becomes a video game character
We thought that Valve Software would be the first to turn the company's beloved co-founder Gabe Newell into a playable video game character, but that honor has instead been snatched by the Australian design team behind co-op dungeon battler Crawl. As reported at Eurogamer, designer Barney Cumming took to the game's development blog on Thursday to post a brief yet tantalizing GIF of his latest in-game creation, and it appeared to portray Newell as a playable "boss" in the game.
