A fingerprint-ID locked phone wasn't going to stop this 6-year-old from catching 'em all. Online purchases have been a pain in the wallet for parents, with the Federal Trade Commission hitting Apple, Google and Amazon with complaints accusing the companies of making it too easy for kids to make in-app purchases. Kids buying online without their parents' consent has cost these companies millions in settlements.

As recently as five years ago, Nintendo’s late president, Satoru Iwata, was adamant that Super Mario would never make the leap to smartphones. “If we did this, Nintendo would cease to be Nintendo,” he said in an interview with Nikkei, in 2011. The decision was philosophical rather than economic. The goal of smartphone developers, Iwata had said earlier that year, “is just to gather as much software as possible, because quantity is what makes the money flow.”

Now you can get Super Mario Run on your iPhone

Mario fans can now hang out with their favourite Nintendo character while they're away from their game system. Nintendo announced on Thursday that Super Mario Run is now available for iPhone and iPad. The game can be downloaded from the App Store at no cost, and players have a chance to try out the game's three modes for free. For unlimited access to the game, there's a one-time payment of $13.99.

Man spends stolen $1m on Game of War

A man went on a $1m (£800,000) spending spree on the Game of War app after stealing $4.8m from his employer. Kevin Lee Co, 45, from Sacramento, California, pleaded guilty to fraudulently using company credit cards to steal the money. Court documents reveal Mr Co spent about $1m of the embezzled funds on Game of War, one of the world's highest grossing mobile games. Players buy gold and other in-game credits to help build their empires.

'No Man's Sky' cleared in false advertising investigation

No Man's Sky developer Hello Games has emerged from a marketing investigation unscathed. The UK's Advertising Standards Authority has spent the last two months examining claims that the game's steam page is misleading. Disgruntled players had taken issue with screenshots, videos and text which, in their opinion, showed the game with better visuals, performance and planetary exploration. These covered warping, ship battles and the complexity of extraterrestrial life.
