Study finds young men are playing video games instead of getting jobs

Study finds young men are playing video games instead of getting jobs

Danny Izquierdo, a 22-year-old who lives with his parents in Silver Spring, Md., has found little satisfaction in a series of part-time, low-wage jobs he's held since graduating from high school. But the video games he plays, including "FIFA 16" and "Rocket League" on PlayStation and Pokemon Go on his smartphone, are a different story. "When I play a game, I know if I have a few hours I will be rewarded," he said. "With a job, it's always been up in the air with the amount of work I put in and the reward."

The Creation of the ESRB - Gaming Historian

The Last Guardian Has Changed Over The Last Year - A Graphics Comparison

The Last Guardian Has Changed Over The Last Year - A Graphics Comparison

There’s an interesting video to be seen at the channel of the YouTuber ‘Cycu1’ that compares footage of The Last Guardian from E3 2015 to last week’s footage. The first thing that can be noticed right off the bat are the changes made to Trico: smaller wings and tail, and his feathers have been made darker. It’s interesting to see there are changes still being made to the main character even in a game that’s been in development for 10 years – it could be about development or simply character design.

When Choice Doesn’t Matter: An essay on game storytelling and choice in favor of player immersion over gameplay

When Choice Doesn’t Matter: An essay on game storytelling and choice in favor of player immersion over gameplay

Walking into The Banner Saga 2, I had a rough idea of what to expect; hard choices, beautiful music and lovely hand-drawn art to frame a sad story. I'd played the first game in the series and was certain that I'd remembered it well enough to know what to expect from its sequel. The trouble is, I'd forgotten something important about the first game: my choices didn't always matter- and that made the experience more meaningful.

How the end of "lonely fun" lead to today’s trickle of D&D books

How the end of "lonely fun" lead to today’s trickle of D&D books

Gaming used to be what D&D boss Mike Mearls called “a hobby of not playing the game you wanted to play.” Fate designer Fred Hicks calls time spent creating characters or reading game books “lonely fun.” Electronic games took away the appeal of lonely fun. Now wherever you have a laptop or phone, you can game.
